Dubai Metro Vision 2030: Connecting the Future with Blue Line Launch & Infrastructure Expansion

Dubai continues to supercharge its public transportation system through Metro Vision 2030, setting the stage for a network that will exceed 421 km and 197 stations. At the heart of this ambitious plan is the Blue Line, a major expansion designed to boost connectivity and support urban development across the emirate.

On June 9, 2025, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum laid the foundation stone for the Blue Line’s first station. He also approved the distinctive architectural design of the iconic Emaar Properties Station, a 74-meter-high, seashell-inspired structure that is set to become the world’s tallest metro station.

What Will the Blue Line Deliver?

According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Blue Line will:

  • • Connect Centrepoint (Red Line) and Creek Interchange (Green Line) via 14 stations spanning 30 km
  • • Serve over one million residents across nine districts, including Dubai Creek Harbour, Festival City, Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Mirdif, Al Warqaa, and more
  • • Provide interchanges at Centrepoint, Creek, and International City 1, with estimated travel times between 17 to 25 minutes
  • • Accommodate 160,000 daily riders initially, increasing to 320,000 by 2040

Integration with Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan

Did you know? The Dubai Metro has transported over 2.527 billion passengers since its launch on September 9, 2009, through to the end of 2024.

The Blue Line directly supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, aligning with the city’s “20-minute city” vision, which aims to ensure that 80% of essential services are within 20 minutes of travel. It also supports Dubai’s goal to become “the best city for living in the world.”

Beyond mobility, the project promotes transit-oriented development, helps reduce traffic congestion by an expected 20%, and is projected to generate over AED 56.5 billion in socioeconomic benefits by 2040.

Iconic Engineering & Design

The Blue Line is designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM)—the architectural firm behind the Burj Khalifa. The line will feature a mix of elevated tracks, underground tunnels, and innovative station designs.

The highlight is the Emaar Properties Station, which spans 11,000 sq.m and will serve between 70,000 and 160,000 passengers daily. Its design features natural materials, bronze tones, glass, and organic lighting for a modern and efficient transit experience.

Emaar Properties also holds the naming rights for this station for the next 10 years, marking a powerful collaboration between the public sector and private real estate developers.

Sheikh Mohammed’s Endorsement: A Milestone Event

Sheikh Mohammed’s presence at the foundation-laying ceremony reaffirms the strategic importance of the Blue Line. He:

  • • Approved the station’s architectural design
  • • Launched the Blue Line under the Dubai 2040 Urban Plan
  • • Highlighted the 2.5 billion+ passengers transported since 2009
  • • Stressed the Metro’s essential role in Dubai’s infrastructure and urban development

This project is part of a larger effort to expand the Metro network from 64 to 78 stations, covering over 131 km of track by 2029.
